Road Trips are Awesome. So is #sxswsf and RoadChallenge.com
Posted on 08. Mar, 2010 by Tammy Camp.
The day is finally upon us. Early this morning, me and my three new best friends piled into a Chevy Equinox, and embarked on a competition road trip to Austin, TX for the SXSW interactive conference.
This isn’t just about driving, though. We’ll be following clues from location to location, and taking on 50 fun “challenges” along the way. For example, we’ll be stopping by an animal shelter to walk the dogs, getting a group of people to sing a famous song, taking a picture with a police officer, and many more.
As we complete these challenges, we’ll be documenting them on the South Florida SXSW Chevy Road Challenge site at http://roadchallenge.com. The competition between teams (it’s us, South Florida, against 7 others) won’t be decided by who gets to Austin first, but rather, who completes the most challenges, and gets the most buzz created around their posts. Kind of like Amazing Race 2.0.

SXSW 2010 Adventure Road Trip – Now Accepting Applications
Posted on 18. Feb, 2010 by Tammy Camp.
Tammy Camp (i.e. me) is now accepting team member applications for her SXSW 2010 Adventure road trip, sponsored by Chevy.
The Challenge
A series of clues will guide the South Florida Chevy Adventure team to the SXSW conference/festival, and we will be participating in a number of scavenger hunt style challenges along the way. The road trip will be a competition between the South Florida team and seven others from across the country.
Telling the Story
Chevy will provide our team with FlipCams to document the journey. We’ll create and use a central lifestreaming site – http://chevysxsw.posterous.com – that will capture the content for all the teams. Each team will be required to aggregate proof of their missions on the lifestreaming page via text, video, or photos.

Visiting the Googleplex – Google Headquarters in Mountain View, CA
Posted on 08. Feb, 2010 by Tammy Camp.
I was in San Francisco last week. Making my rounds, I found myself at Google Global Headquarters in Mountain View, CA — known to “Googlers” as the Googleplex.
I must admit that being a tech geek, I was absolutely stoked to have an opportunity to tour the campus. I got to peek around at the different offices, eat lunch at the cafateria, and stroll though the Growing Connection Garden.
As I strolled through the gardens, I reminisced about opening my first Google Adwords account way back in 2002, long before Google went public. They’ve come a long way since then. *sniff-sniff*. It brought tears to eyes to see an infant grow into an adult. Wait, not even an adult…..hell, a giant!

Dubai Unveils the World’s Tallest Tower – Burj Khalifa
Posted on 05. Jan, 2010 by Tammy Camp.
It’s official, Burj Dubai is now “Burj Khalifa”, the world’s tallest tower. The height of the tower, kept top secret until now, was announced as 828 meters (2,716.5 ft).
The Burj Khalifa, developed by Emaar Properties, was unveiled on the evening of January 4th, 2010. Thousands of people present, and viewers around the world, were treated to an extravagant show of fireworks, lasers, and fountain displays.
Burj Khalifa is now the tallest building in the world, according to the three main criteria of the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH). The CTBUH ranks the world’s tallest buildings based on ‘Height to Architectural Top,’ ‘Height to Highest Occupied Floor’ and ‘Height to Tip.’
At 828 metres (2,716.5ft), Burj Khalifa is 320 metres taller than Taipei 101, which stands at 508 metres (1,667 ft). Taipei 101 had held the record for the world’s tallest building measured to the architectural top since 2004, the year the project was announced.
Burj Khalifa also achieved the distinction of being the world’s tallest structure – surpassing the KVLY-TV mast (628.8 metres; 2,063 ft) in North Dakota, USA – 1,325 days after excavation work started in January 2004.

Top 5 Places to Learn Kiteboarding in 2010
Posted on 28. Dec, 2009 by Tammy Camp.
The extreme sport of kiteboarding is hot right now. Just ask actor Woody Harrelson, racecar driver Michael Schumacher, or entrepreneur Richard Branson (who apparently kiteboards with naked models).
The kiteboarding craze has even made its way to the San Francisco Bay area where Google founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page, Seesmic’s Loïc Le Meur (@Loic), Second Life’s Philip Rosedale, and venture capitalists Bill Tai (@KiteVC) of Charles River Ventures are all into it. Who knows, kiteboarding could even be the way to get your next venture capital deal.
Is it your resolution to learn how to kiteboard in 2010? Want a purpose for your travel destinations in 2010 and seek out crazy, exotic and windy places?
