Let’s Get Naked: My Take on Transparency Online
Posted on 04. Mar, 2010 by Tammy Camp.
“Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind” – Dr. Seuss
Up until recently, the concept of transparency was little more than a buzzword for me. I wasn’t completely comfortable revealing certain things about my life online, and kept my personal life mostly private in favor of the professional.
However, starting this blog, being more active on social networks (like twitter and facebook), working on a posterous lifecasting site and receiving encouraging insight from English entrepreneur, Ben Way (@BenpbWay), I’ve slowly started to become more comfortable with online transparency.
It’s gotten to the point where I’m actually known for my transparency, and have become an advocate for getting naked… um, I mean, sharing about yourself online.

What is Your Lifeline? How Well Do You Know Yourself?

How well do you know yourself?
I thought I knew the answer to this question pretty well… but I was quite shocked once I made my lifeline during a training session I attended for the Entrepreneur’s Organization.
What is a lifeline?
A lifeline is a way to map out significant milestones in your life. It’s a way for you to get insight into the events that shape the person you are, and share it with others. Lifelines are a great exercise to get to know other people, and for others to get to know you in a high-paced environment.
I really encourage everyone to do this exercise if they haven’t yet, or haven’t done so within the past 5 years. For me, I know many things were uncovered that I had buried in a time capsule. Time to crack it open.

One Word Barometers
Posted on 24. Feb, 2010 by Tammy Camp.
One-word exercises are fun, and often insightful. A person’s answers can tell a lot about them. My favorites are yes, chocolate, and fuck (usually one of the three apply).
It’s also helpful to know how you’re feeling each day — monitoring your experience can help you make better decisions, and be a better leader.
So tell me in one word… “How are you feeling?”

Do you hate staring at a blank document on Microsoft Word?
Does your stomach tighten at the thought of your impending deadlines?
Try this solution. As soon as you possibly can. It just might save your ass.
By the way, this basic idea came from (and was authorized for distribution by) a Yale University grad who routinely got between a B+ and an A+ by handing in his FIRST DRAFTS, despite being a relentless procrastinator and starting his papers the night before they were due. It works.
It works for blogging, academic essays, personal statements, important emails, sales letters, screenplays, scripts. You name it.

5 Hot Copywriting Secrets
Posted on 28. Aug, 2009 by Brian L. Burns.
Tammy Camp, a friend, asked me to write a guest post for this blog. Not being an adventure traveler, a kiteboarder, or for that matter, a particularly successful businessperson, you can imagine I was intimidated. I mean, what was I going to write about, that she couldn’t cover better?
When in doubt, fall back on your expertise. While I joke that I’m an expert in domestic beer and seducing women, those are actually both false. All I’m really good at is copywriting. So here, for your enjoyment, are my 5 hot copywriting secrets:
1. Always talk directly to your customers. Especially in the web 2.0 era of the Internet, the interactions you have with your customers should be conversations, not one-way dictations. Your copy should reflect this approach, addressing your readers, users, and customers the way you’d talk to them. Directly. In a conversation.
