BlackBerry, the enterprise phone, is often dismissed as the “other” brand within social media communities. But worldwide, BlackBerrys still outnumber iPhones — approx. 36 million to 21 million — and RIM has made major strides in recent years to become more social-friendly.

I use my BlackBerry not only for business, but for most of my social media. I’ve found it to be downright kickass at both, made even better by a full keyboard, and great global coverage.

There are many social media-related apps available for BlackBerry, and it can be tough to pick only the good ones. To cut through the others, here are my top-5 social apps for BlackBerry:

  • nice list though somewhat obvious except for evernote as some folks probably haven't jumped on board there.

I concur with all of them except I would additionally recommend these be added to the "must" BBFree App list:

    - Viigo @viigo www.viigo.com - awesome app for managing your RSS feeds / news / weather / podcasts etc

    - Seesmic @seesmic www.seesmic.com - I have this app installed along with Ubertwitter and often have them in a daily faceoff on response time and features

    - Bloomberg Mobile http://appworld.blackberry.com/webstore/content... - sure it sucks to see how poor your stocks are doing but it's nice to have at my fingertips

    - Foursquare - http://foursquare.com/blackberry/ - I would agree that this is much much better than the mobile page they were having us use previously

    - Google Maps - m.google.com/maps - I still am in disbelieve of the real-time traffic reporting layer but it has come in handy while walking around NYC

    - I've started playing with @vlingo and drivesafe.ly and both are unique and pretty cool for voice activated apps on the blackberry but they work with free-text fields - I want a voice activated app that can change my Pandora stations on my command while I am driving :)

Great stuff and think this should be a regular entry to come back to since not all of us are cool enough to have iphones, droids or nexus ones...
